Infectious Disease Control section
Infectious diseases are an increasing health problem worldwide that needs systematic preventive control interventions. The research section Infectious Disease Control investigates the public health consequences of infectious diseases and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of their control. The core activity is the development and application of simulation models describing the transmission and natural history of infectious diseases, and the impact of control measures. For many years we have been involved in research in the areas of helminth infections (onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, and schistosomiasis), tuberculosis, leprosy, viral hepatitis, visceral leishmaniasis, and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
