Healthy population and excellent healthcare. This is what Erasmus MC stands for. Conducting groundbreaking work, pushing boundaries, and leading the way in research, education, and healthcare. We employ practical thinkers. Driven professionals with a can-do mentality who use their expertise to expand the pool of knowledge about health and disease, who improve diagnostics and treatment, and who continually look for ways to innovate. Their commitment helps us to help our patients and others with a healthcare need even more effectively, and enables us to keep healthy people healthy for longer.
Our mission is to conduct eminent research and provide excellent education with a discernable impact on population health at the local, national, and international level. Our goals are to strive at high-quality scientific publications on relevant and innovative topics, and to disseminate our knowledge and expertise to support evidence-based public health. Cross-disciplinary research is the key approach to strengthen ongoing research and to develop new areas and opportunities. We aim at an open and critical atmosphere in which employees feel inspired and happy to contribute to our mission.
Infectious diseases are an increasing health problem worldwide that needs systematic preventive control interventions. The research section Infectious Disease Control investigates the public health consequences of infectious diseases and evaluates the cost-effectiveness of their control. The core activity is the development and application of simulation models describing the transmission and natural history of infectious diseases, and the impact of control measures. For many years we have been involved in research in the areas of helminth infections (onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, and schistosomiasis), tuberculosis, leprosy, viral hepatitis, visceral leishmaniasis, and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
